Borut Pahor for ND Vijesti: “You Should Be Admitted to the EU Even If You Are Not Fully Ready”

In a widely discussed interview for the Montenegrin daily Vijesti, former president, founder and director of the Friends of Western Balkans (FoWB), Borut Pahor, once again drew strong attention across the region. He stressed that the European Union must approach the Western Balkans with greater political courage and strategic foresight.
“The EU should admit the region even if some countries are not fully ready,” Pahor stated. According to him, the current enlargement process is overly bureaucratic and technical, failing to keep pace with rapidly changing geopolitical realities. “If the EU moves too slowly, others will fill the space,” he warned.
Pahor also presented his vision of a package enlargement, in which all six Western Balkan countries would join the EU simultaneously. “This would send a powerful political signal of stability, peace, and a shared future,” he emphasized.
